My New President

Note:  I’m purposely writing this post before I know the results of the election.  Although I have strong opinions about politics and I take my role as a voter very seriously, I have not publicly declared for either candidate.  My comments apply, no matter which of the two men win the election.

We have now elected a president, and my primary Biblical role is to pray for him.  I pray that God will give him wisdom.  I pray that God will help him to lead this country effectively.  I pray that he will be able to deal with the many issues facing this country.  I pray for his safety and for his family.  Me deepest desire is that he will turn out to be an excellent leader, and that he will pleasantly surprise me with his abilities.

That does not mean that I agree with him on every issue.  As a matter of fact, there are many issues on which we differ.  We look at faith differently.  We don’t agree on how to solve our economic problems.  We don’t agree on immigration policy.  We have different opinions on how to create jobs, how to deal with our debt, how to structure our military, and how to deal with the challenges of the middle east.  We differ on how to deal with many social and moral issues.

I hope you understand me.  I am a highly opinionated political thinker, and I don’t fully agree with either candidate, so I don’t fully agree with the new president.

Nevertheless, I will pray for him.  I will support him even when I disagree with him.  I will feel free to share my thoughts about his policies, but I will do so respectfully.  I will not call him names or put him down.  I will not lie, exaggerate, or pass on untruths and gossip to make him look bad.

Whether I voted for him or not, I will pray for him, support him, and accept him as my president.

I encourage you to do the same.
